THE OTHER SIDE OF NIGERIAN TWINS: “Taiwo and Kehinde”

SIGHTS like this can be seen everywhere in Nigeria with the faces of mostly identical twins. But very rarely known about Nigerian twins with twins dominate mostly in their Yoruba ethic group.

But whatever it is? There is an edge story behind Nigerian twins. Therefore, if not a Scottish Presbyterian Missionary, Mary Slessor, would perhaps Nigeria be recognized as one of the nation with the highest twinning rate in the world? 
However, a Zambian twin, blogger and Journalist, Walusungu Silweya fared to discourse with the Kogi State born identical twin sisters, Taiyelolu Grace Tolorunsagba and Kehinde Deborah Tolorunsagba popular known as “Divine Twins” on a video call. 
The Divine Twins’ energies this fellow twin and blogger on their rich history of twins, the missionary Slessor alongside with the uniqueness and mystic prejudice surrounding the Nigerians twins. 
Around 1876, just after Slessor sail in to West Africa, the birth of twins was considered a particularly evil curse and could even be sacrificed as result been rejected. 
However, Divine Twins added that Slessor stopped the common practice of infanticide of twins and adopted a good number of twins whom were rejected by their parents and rescued many from infanticide and sent them to the mission house to protect and care for them. 
Unfortunately, Slessor died in 2015. She was given a state funeral in Nigeria and they simply remembered as “mother of all peoples” in the month of October and November through Twins Musical Consent and Twins Conventional respectively. 
Meanwhile, Divine-Twins were named Taiyelolu and Kehinde which is mostly common names for twins in Nigeria. Their tribe Yoruba, twins are believed to be magical and are granted protection. The firstborn of twins is known Taiwo while the second one is called Kehinde. 
The elder twin, the reason for this is that Taiwo is sent by Kehinde to judge of the world if acceptable and beautifully before he/she descends in accordance with Yoruba beliefs. This merge Divine-Twins to claim to think alike. 
The diploma holders in Mass communication described themselves as celestial that emerged in reporting, bag marking and hair stylists’ industry with passion to excel in Zambian market, who are also members of Nigeria’s Twins Alive Foundation. 
And Nigeria is regarded most highly populated nation in the world, as of 2020 estimated 206.14 million people, ranking seventh in the world but expert say that the country has the world highest twinning rate.
