ZAMBIA is known to produce great talents in different sports especially football but even minor sports such as Chess are not an exception. UNZA Honeys too good for Breeze By WALUSUNGU SILWEYA UNZA Honeys vs NAPSA Breeza UNZA Honeys on Wednesday won the National Basketball championship title after beating NAPSA Breeze 3-2 at National Sports and Development Centre in Lusaka. Honeys won three sets while Breeze claimed one victory and the other ended in a draw. In the first set, Breeze edged Honeys 79-59 but the later bounced back to snatch the second set 70-53 and posted 59-55 in the third set but lost the fourth 53-49 to Breeze. However, Honeys won the decisive fifth set 58-54 to seal the title. Honeys coach Cuthbert Tembo said the game was tough. “Breeze is a strong team; they made the girls play on high temple forcing us to change our strategy at half time by slowing the game down so they can play on our tempo. I think that is what helped us win the game,” he said. And Zambia Basketball Association (ZBA) general secretary Mwembe Kaoma apologised for lack of sponsorship for the event.
Sunday, February 08, 2015 By WALUSUNGU SILWEYA, ROBINSON KUNDA Lusaka EMMANUEL Chimuka was yesterday elected new Zambia Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (ZBBFF) president after beating incumbent Danny Mkandawire during the elections held at NASDEC in Lusaka. Mkandawire managed only eight votes while Chimuka of T$T gymnasium had 17 to become the new ZBBFF boss. The other seven executive committee members who include vice president Brown Ng’ambi went through unopposed as there were no people to challenge them. The new general secretary is Cornelius Chanda who went through unopposed after incumbent Lee Mukupa refused to re-contest his position. Mukupa, who is Muchinga Ward 24 councilor, said he opted not to re - contest because he wants to concentrate on politics. CHIPOLOPOLO coach Honour Janza has urged striker Mwape Musonda to be a goal-taker after signing a three-and-a-half-year contract with South African side giant Orlando Pirates on Wednesday. THE Zambia Basketball Association (ZBA) has moved today’s tournament from National Sports Development Centre (NASDEC) to Olympic Youths Development Centre (OYDC) due to power and water crisis. ZBA general secretary Mwemba Kaoma confirmed the development yesterday saying the tournament will start around 15:00 hours and 18:00 hours, women and men respectively. Kaoma said Zambia Basketball Association (ZBA) National Championship Finals tournament will also give the technical bench a hint of what to expect for year’s zone six. Four teams both men and women will clash for a final, UNZA Pacers up against Matero Magic, UNZA Honeys against NAPSA blades respectively.
